Trident Angels
Snorkeling in Barbados, be it Folkstone or Carlisle Marine Park, Mullins Bay or
Batts Rock Beach
one can catch a glimpse of the shimmering blue and golden yellow
Angel fish swimming gracefully amongst the corals. These beauties are often
referred to as Queen of the Reefs.
Coincidentally, the national flag of Barbados is represented with the colours Blue
And Gold & features a black Trident. Blue represents the sea and sky of Barbados.
While gold represents the sand of the island's beaches. The symbol at the centre of
the flag represents the Trident of the mythical sea god, Neptune - the shaft of the
trident is broken symbolising Barbados' break from Britain.
In 1627 with the English settlement in Holetown, Barbados became and remained a
British colony until 30th November 1966 achieving its Independence from Britain.
In tribute to Barbados’ 50th year of Independence 2016.
